A.k.a. What to Wear to a Honky-Tonk
First order of business when you pack for spring break this year, pretend there isn’t a global pandemic going on. This is spring break and it is a time to relax, not worry about the disease spreading around the globe. Second, realize if you go to Nashville you would not only have to battle the virus (and the fear surrounding it), but a possible tornado too. So, spend almost 2 hours waiting on the phone with the airline to cancel your flight. Finally, mourn the fact that you were already packed for your trip and blog about it anyway. I may not be going to Nashville but I know what I Would have worn.
The Shirts
For the shirts I tried to put together a mix of southern inspired casual and Insta ready. I went for a couple of light but long sleeve options because we were looking at scattered showers and weather around 70 degrees. I also wanted to make sure that some of these shirts could continue on to the bars when needed. It can be helpful to look at the shirts you have and balance statement pieces (which tend to be my favorites) with basics to bring flexible outfits. This means being ready for the last minute changes that will inevitably arise when traveling.
The “Cute tops”
When a friend asks, “What are we wearing tonight?” and your look at your outfit and respond “Jeans and a cute top” thinking that she’ll totally get it. Then the next time you get that response you look in your closet and wonder what in the world is a “cute top”? These are my go to cute tops. I sincerely believe that snakeskin (like cheetah print) is a perfect neutral and this bodysuit is really comfortable! The green shirt has some country vibes and the flowing sleeves that could sell me on a potato sack. Finally, my AC/DC crop top may not be country but definitely puts me in the mood to go out and have some fun.
The Top Layer
Who knows what the day may hold and when the weather will change, when things change it is a good idea to have something to throw on top of any shirt. If you are carrying a bigger bag these would be perfect to just toss in there and whip it out in case the weather takes a turn. It’s called spring break for a reason, the weather is never stable and it is essential to pack for curve balls.
Flowing Bottoms
Aside from the jeans I was inevitably going to pack, I love to toss a couple of fun bottoms in. I did pack one dress, it is a bright and fun mustard-y yellow and its got those polka dots I promised you’d be seeing in the Spring 2020 Trends. Plus, it has the balanced cute, casual vibe I’ve been talking about. The skirt is one that I have spent so much time looking for. The slip skirt was so popular last year and every one that I tried just wasn’t right. When I found this one I knew that I had finally found the skirt I was waiting for.
The Shoes
One of the most important things you can bring on any trip is at least one pair of adventuring shoes. This spring break I made sure to pack my favorite kind of adventure shoes, converse. I have always been partial to high tops, but choosing your go-to adventure shoe is a mission of the heart. I had to pack my country inspired ankle boots. They started out in my mother’s closet, meaning they are plenty worn in for a honky-tonk night. The white sneakers are one of my new favorites, they are fresh and clean but have that burst of color on the sole that really excites me.
I had gotten exactly this far when my roommate looked at me and said, “Nashville is under a tornado watch.” Then we realized we were not meant to be in Nashville this week. We realized, instead of drinking beer listening to country music, we would be watching Netflix and avoiding other people. So, we switched out our night out tops for our night in sweats. If anyone needs me, I’ll be binge watching Netflix. On the other hand, if you’ve reached the end of your Netflix list and need something else to do, take a look at my other articles.
